Penlify ("we", "us", or "our") is a free online note-taking tool available at penlify.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By using Penlify, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2a. Information you provide

  • Account information (optional): If you create a free account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. No other personal details are required.
  • Note content: The text content of the notes you create and save within the app.

2b. Information collected automatically

  • Log data: Standard server logs may include your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. Logs are retained for up to 30 days for security monitoring.
  • Cookies: We may set a minimal, necessary session cookie. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and maintain the service, including saving and syncing your notes.
  • To authenticate you when you log in.
  • To send important service updates or security notices (no marketing emails without explicit opt-in).
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse.
  • To improve the product using aggregated, anonymised usage analytics.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. We may share anonymised, aggregate statistics (e.g., "X notes were created this month") publicly. We may share data with law enforcement only when required by a valid legal process.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on servers hosted within reputable cloud providers. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS/HTTPS). Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and are never stored in plain text. While we take reasonable precautions, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

Your account and note data are retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the dashboard settings, which will permanently delete all associated notes and personal data within 30 days.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction or deletion of your data.
  • Export your data (available directly from the app).
  • Object to or restrict certain types of processing.

8. Children's Privacy

Penlify is not directed at individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of Penlify after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
